planting

we've been doing a little planting in our children's garden. it's not always easy as there are so many roots from prior plants that it's difficult to dig even the smallest hole for a lily bulb. and the beds for the vegetables have been filled with teeny tiny caterpillars this year. they aren't the prettiest sight, but the seedlings seem to be doing fine so far. the difficulties in the soil feel like a reflection of my life these days; contracting, intertwining roots and ominous, crawling caterpillars.
