it's difficult to tell from this picture, but they are all knitting. they are working on projects for our homeschooling nychea craft fair on december 8th. m is making mittens, c is making gnomes and k is making a hat. of course, k is also posting on her facebook page and chatting with her friends at the same time.
here is our beloved madeline. when we came home, we found her encamped on k's pillow, very contentedly grooming herself. most of the time she is really quite the nuisance and eats all our cotton socks, shirts, pajamas, and sheets. certainly, not good for her digestion. we try to keep this diet to a minimum, as you can imagine.
i caught a bad (click on the link and you can listen to van's song while reading) stomachbug tuesday night. actually, i suppose i caught it from my friend monday night and it hit me early wednesday morning. 4 am. it was short but intense. i haven't felt that sick in quite awhile. i even had to call my doctor to be reassured that i wasn't dying. (which he did very well. he's so good.) i spent all day wednesday sleeping, though i did manage to finish my heart square that night. a friend's daughter had knee surgery and squares were collected to make a scarf. unfortunately, i didn't finish mine in time. instead it's being made into a lavender pillow and going to be sent off as a valentine's get well gift. c and i have also been reading the caroline series by maria d. wilkes. we're up to _little clearing in the woods_. it's the paperback book on the right. underneath it is a beautiful and old edition of laura ingalls wilder's little house in the big woods.
slowly today i've been feeling stronger and been able to eat more. though i haven't been able to eat quite the same things as c and k. here they are making "croque monsieur" from the recipe in our around the world cookbook.
yes, this is the sock you can see me knitting while standing on line at the polls. it's my very first sock and i love working on it. i'm always daydreaming while i'm knitting about all the dozens of socks i'm going to make for family and friends. i certainly knit more quickly in my head than in real life.
m and c and i stayed in today and worked on our doll's underwear. well, i worked on underwear, m made shorts and a skirt and a top. c finished her undies, and then went off to play whatever it is she plays (it involves a lot of clothing changes and walking around in my old purple suede boots). meanwhile, outside tropical storm hanna raged and then quieted, and then raged again. k ran an errand all the way uptown to fairway. she craved "chaos." it's one of those pirate booty snacks. it's quite yummy. she brought back some other things also, and enjoyed a wet rainy walk. jack was very good while we
sat on the floor and knitted our doll clothes. he slept on his bed and didn't disturb us at all. everyone watched movies in the evening. c watched little women, k and m watched harry potter and the chamber of secrets, and i was supposed to watch raise the red lantern, with my friend, but her computer wouldn't work, and neither would her internet explorer when we thought we'd do an instant download from netflix. of course, after i left and she was telling her children (who had returned home from an outing with papa) about the situation, everything worked again! very weird! i guess neither one of us really wanted to watch a movie. instead we talked and i helped her set up a blog and i showed her my profile on ravelry. it was a fun night with the wind blowing the curtains about and slamming the doors shut! and the rain pelting down.
we thought we would try to make some doll clothes today. i say "try" because making such small items is difficult for me. my fingers seem to grow five inches wider and i truly understand the meaning of the expression "all thumbs." m. and c. do fine except when jack wants to get in on the act. he just doesn't understand why we don't want his face in our face, or his lap in our lap, or his butt on our yarn and knitting needle cases. i'm not much help because i laugh at him and he gets even more rambunctious and starts flapping his tug toy around.
