june twenty eighth

i grew up in a corner house on a suburban street. the house was surrounded by trees. there were olive, plum, mountain ash, crabapple, pine, poplar and birch. every june they shaded the beautiful tiger lilies that bloomed all around the foundation. i remember waking on early summer mornings and running outside to say hello to their happy orange faces.
