a dubious day
we had friends cancel a playground date today. we couldn't decide what to do afterwards. should we meet friends at the beach? but they weren't at the beach yet, they were still at a picnic. should we go to the playground anyway, and eat the sandwiches we had made? after much discussion, arguing, bickering, wailing and whining, we finally decided to go to ronnybrook dairy at chelsea market and have ice cream. and since i was buying ice cream for all of us k. was going to come also. being 14 and all she doesn't hang out with us much these days, but this afternoon we promenaded together. sort of. she did walk 12 feet ahead of us most of the way. ahem. so, we went in through the new tea store that's at the market now. well, it's been there for a year already, but it was the first time i had been. T salon. i tried an iced chelsea chai. of course i shared it. which meant i got to drink half of it. almost half of it. well, it's good i had gotten a large. and i liked adding my own milk from their cute little frig. ronnybrook milk. and that's where we went to next. oh the ice cream was delicious. we had been in the day before with our friends and the chocolate raspberry truffle called me back. k. had ginger brulee; c. raspberry and m. butter pecan. of course everyone had to taste each other's ice cream and then complain how the taste licks were bites and much too big. (you really just have to laugh about these things.)
after our ice cream we walked to purl fabric soho to pick out some brown material for our nature table project. we're making mother earth and the root children. (we lost k. for this expedition. she went jedi costume shopping at beacon's closet in williamsburg.) i was really happy that i could just buy a 1/4 yard of fabric. i was able to get four different pieces for $7.50. it felt nice to get beautiful material without having to spend an arm and a leg. purl is a lovely store. they had flannel in sweet patterns that would be good for nightgowns. and m. made sure i saw the cute paper dolls in the window. i also like checking out their blog. it's loaded with fun projects.
