prices in my neighborhood can be a little absurd. i walked into my health food store the other day and stared in stupefaction at this chocolate ice-cream container in the freezer section. really, $6.99 for a pint of ice-cream? of course my daughter pointed out to me that it IS goat milk ice-cream and the name IS quite cute. la-loo. la-loo's goat's milk ice cream company: deep chocolate and vanilla snowflake. very pretty names! but . . we went with the stonyfield which was only $3.99; downright cheap in comparison. but there was still no chocolate in my bag so we high-tailed it over to dagostino's which always gets my goat (!) because they can charge crazy numbers too. $5.50 for haagen dazs chocolate. i know my sister will tell me to go for the turkey hill or the friendly's, but they just don't taste the same.while at dagostino's i had fun comparing the horizon organic cheese slices (which i like to have on my sandwiches) with what i usually pay at my coop: only $6.49! (as opposed to the coop's $3.59). of course the creme de la creme is the boursin cheese ball: only $7.49 for the little guy, which i can buy for $1.89 at east village cheese and which i always feel very smug about. (i hope i haven't jinxed east village cheese. stores close right and left here because rents are raised astronomically).
