seized!

the sign says "WARNING SEIZURE New York State Department of Taxation and Finance." so i guess someone didn't pay their taxes. i wonder what else is involved with the story. the signs have been up since march. m. and c. and i were walking by last week and c. opened up the mail slot and stuck her nose in and took a big whiff. she gagged. it really smelled she said. of course m. had to stick her nose in and gag too, but she said she wished she hadn't done it. she couldn't get the smell out of her nostrils. we watched two flies buzzing around inside. they must be breeding in there. it must be horrible. i hate to think about the condition of the kitchen and the refrigerator. i don't think it was cleaned out. the place has been sitting untouched for months with the tables set so carefully, and the bar stocked with wine bottles. since the sign first went up, i've watched the dust collect on the white plate on the corner table. m. says they should have let the owner in to at least collect his things. it's kind of sad. it was one of my favorite restaurants! c. and i ate there last winter. c. had a delicious lentil soup and we had a very nice lemon sorbet for dessert. i wonder how long it will sit like this for.
