rockaway
rockaway. supposedly a phonetic corruption of a lenape native american word meaning "sand" and "place."

rockaway in this picture was windy, foggy and cool when you got out of the water. the colors were grey, white and steel blue, and the air was very damp. the surf always has that edge of danger. swimming at the cape is like that too, when the tide is out, because the ground just DROPS. one minute you're standing with the water swirling around your chest, the next minute you're under. but when the tide is in, you have a long stretch of sand to boogie board on.
