camera blues

ooooohhhhh, it's just too sad. my camera is in the hospital! oh woe is me . . i dropped it while sledding. it fell on the bench that sat at the foot of the hill down which we were sledding. it just slipped out of my hands and fell, whack, on the bench and then plummeted into the snow. i'm such a bad camera mommy! abraham at phototech on 13th street, said "accidents happen." oh thank you abraham for being so understanding! please take good care of my camera and please don't charge me too much to fix it!!

robyn's window

my friend robyn finished her window display for the lionbrand yarn studio. it is so fabulous! there's the beautiful empire state building with a big purple cable, the UN, the lipstick building, the chrysler building, king kong (with fay wray or jessica lange? to me it looked like jessica!), and special nyc pigeons, taxies and a garbage truck with nyc garbage falling out all over the FDR drive . . . and even mayor mike, knitting of course!

sweets

my latest favorite mocha is at joe on waverly. this day c just had to have the cinnamon bun; the giant cinnamon bun which came with the giant hot chocolate. well if you're going to have something sweet, you may as well do it right.

monday noon: sledding in brooklyn

when i woke and saw the beautiful snow i knew we had to journey out to prospect park in brooklyn to go sledding. it was the most snow so far this year. a great sledding day, and we hadn't been sledding in brooklyn for years. in the past we've either been at my mom and dad's house or my sister's house for a good snowfall, and the girls got in some good enough sledding time so that i didn't feel we needed to trek out to brooklyn. but this year the sledding days had added up to nothing. so i called my friend around the corner who was adventurous enough to make the trip along with her guests from majorca and off we went on the IRT to brooklyn . . and brooklyn was wild! (it always feels more wild in brooklyn), the wind was blowing like a cyclone and the temperature felt 10 degrees colder and and the snow felt 10 feet deeper . . and the view in prospect park is much more vast . . you can look across a wonderfully large expanse of land that allows you to take a deep breath and sigh with relief at the share emptiness of it all. and for hours we went up and down those lovely little hills and as the snow became more and more packed down (while still wonderfully swirling about our heads) we went faster and faster til we were finally slowing down from our run seemingly in the middle of a great grey void.

a light dusting today

see that cute little blue tricycle down there? it's been sitting out through the snow and rain all winter. i've been considering taping a sign to it "where is my owner? come take me home."
