monday noon: sledding in brooklyn

when i woke and saw the beautiful snow i knew we had to journey out to prospect park in brooklyn to go sledding. it was the most snow so far this year. a great sledding day, and we hadn't been sledding in brooklyn for years. in the past we've either been at my mom and dad's house or my sister's house for a good snowfall, and the girls got in some good enough sledding time so that i didn't feel we needed to trek out to brooklyn. but this year the sledding days had added up to nothing. so i called my friend around the corner who was adventurous enough to make the trip along with her guests from majorca and off we went on the IRT to brooklyn . . and brooklyn was wild! (it always feels more wild in brooklyn), the wind was blowing like a cyclone and the temperature felt 10 degrees colder and and the snow felt 10 feet deeper . . and the view in prospect park is much more vast . . you can look across a wonderfully large expanse of land that allows you to take a deep breath and sigh with relief at the share emptiness of it all. and for hours we went up and down those lovely little hills and as the snow became more and more packed down (while still wonderfully swirling about our heads) we went faster and faster til we were finally slowing down from our run seemingly in the middle of a great grey void.
