new york city waterfalls

i've taken a few photos of the waterfalls olafur eliasson has created around the city. one photo was taken from the BQE when driving out to my mom's house. another was taken from the staten island ferry when returning from the alice austen house after the duncan performance. the third is from governor's island. the falls are beautiful and it's amazing the way they suck up all that river water and shoot it back out. i love large art installations: wrapping bridges and buildings, the falls, the gates. i still miss the gates. i loved the community aspect of the entire project. i didn't work on it myself, but i had many friends who did and it was fun meeting them while walking through the park. we also just happened to run across the exhibit at the MET that explained christo's and jean claude's vision and process. didn't plan to see it. just bumped into it. it was exciting.
seeing the falls is exciting too. and here you can read an article about the work involved in new york magazine. it's the pump part that really amazes me! and i'm always impressed by an artist who can deal with bureaucracy.
